DIE HÄNGENDE FIGUR IST JUDAS:
Park Lane Group Young Artists New Year
Series 2008 – 3
James Barralet (cello)
...Even stronger musically is Kenneth Hesketh's Die hängende
Figur ist Judas (1998), three perspectives for solo cello on
varying images (both visual and literary) of the betrayer
and his demise in which subtly varied 'swinging' motifs
underpin each of the movements to haunting and unnerving
effect.

... James Barralet's delivery supplied its own fascinations.
How could such muscular expression arise from such a
physically low-key performer? The head scarcely moved. He
seemed frightened of his shadow. Of tortured faces there
were none. No doubting the strength of feeling, though, from
the desolate wastes of Britten's third suite to the febrile
kaleidoscope of Kenneth Hesketh's Die hängende Figur ist
Judas.
